Water and co

Graduation Project 1970

If we gaze at Acre valley from bird eye view, we will see a fields and water land, wide and open.
wonderfully contrast to what that going on around it. Ako valley it’s a agricultural space, which have un essential interface with the water system, combining agricultural and natural aspects.
The water system based on two main streams – ‘Hilazon’ and ‘Naaman’, combining in Ako valley.
The project deals with the water throw three different themes.

The base layer it’s the environmental problems, created due to the intensive management of the water system in the agricultural space, eroding ecosystems, and system services.

The second layer, is the potential of an artificial water system to constitute as an aquatic habitat, alongside the expansion and restoration of natural habitats. Creating resilience in this sensitive ecosystem is essential to ensuring system services.

The third layer, is the leisure and traveling potential that the water system has. The potential express in the agricultural scenery, in its closeness to population centers, and in the ability to relieve load from more sensitive spaces. Despite the potential that exists in the valley, it’s not contained a single hiking trail. This phenomenon reflects a view of the agricultural space as a service area that keeps visitors away.

physical alienation dragging mental alienation, and a lack of familiarity with the popular and complex systems essential to our existence. In order to realize the leisure and traveling potential, we must first address environmental problems and support complex ecosystems.

So, the project’s objectives are – to solve environmental problems in the water system by landscape means, to strengthen the ability of the artificial water system to form a habitat, to rehabilitate natural aquatic habitats, and to establish a recreational system and promenades on the water system in the agricultural area.
The three layers of the project expressed through the example of the interface of the sewage treatment and the stream. The Acre sewage treatment plant is located near the Hilazon River. The sewage treatment device discharges excess effluent into the river, due to a shortage of storage space.  Using Constracted wetland, will purify the effluent before flowing into the river, and save on the establishment of future effluent reservoirs. The Constracted wetland also serves as an artificial habitat and increase  complexity to the aquatic ecosystem. Adding structural complexity to the existing effluent reservoir alongside the sewage treatment plant, using moderate banks, islands and vegetation, creates a tangled habitat alongside deep water. The creation of a theme park as part of a traveling system, will allow acquaintance with these vital systems, as well as a space of leisure and recreation in the sgricultural valley, full of diverse water experiences.

The water system in the Acre Valley is a private case of agricultural water systems throughout the country. I believe that a multi-purpose planning approach that provides environmental, ecological and traveling solutions will enable to relay on system services for as and the next generations.
