connecting line | Trail of the residents of the “Western Galilee”

Graduation Project 2023

The Western Galilee region represents a diverse human mosaic, encompassing various settlements and communities. Since the 1950s and 1970s, this area has seen the establishment of two primary societies: an Arab society consisting of Druze, Muslims, and Christians residing in villages and a Jewish society living in agricultural and communal settlements. Despite their differences, these communities coexist.

Currently, the communities in Western Galilee are disconnected, with the term “Western Galilee” serving more as a geographical label than as a cohesive identity that fosters a sense of belonging. This project aims to cultivate shared values among diverse communities and living environments, fostering a sense of belonging without forcing unification.

To achieve this, the project proposes three key strategies:

  1. Connectivity Path: A path will be created for residents of Western Galilee that connects the centers of various settlements, featuring different meeting points along its length. This initiative will enhance connectivity among the communities and encourage interaction.
  1. Access to Natural Areas: Making the Ahihud Forest accessible will highlight previously unused stream areas, reinforcing the significance of local water bodies. This approach aims to weave a narrative of place and foster a sense of regional belonging.
  1. Development of Meeting Areas: The project will develop meeting areas in Nahal Yitzhar Park, Yaer Achihud Park, and Abu Sanan Park. These spaces will be enriched with interesting vegetation, enhanced stream presence, and diverse activities designed to engage residents. By transforming neglected areas into welcoming and stimulating environments, the project will facilitate social and community connections between the two populations.
