What happens when crisis and risk become an architectural convention?
In Israel, defensive measures, shaped by decades of conflict and risk mitigation, have gradually been embedded in the everyday geometry of buildings. Forming Risk traces this process through architectural drawings, where laws, standards, and institutional judgments are translated into lines, hatches, and annotations. Taking public kindergartens as its principal case, the study highlights regulations in technical drawings, revealing how successive responses to crises accumulate in ordinary architecture while examining the architect’s role in translating these requirements into spatial form.
Through this juxtaposition, a permit and a plan become more than instruments of construction: they become archives of decisions, anxieties, and histories that continue to shape Israel’s built environment.
