This study addresses one of the central questions in contemporary urban planning: how planning parameters shape the city and the patterns of inequality embedded within it. Focusing on the city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the study examines the relationship between the unequal allocation of spatial parameters, urban typologies, socio-economic conditions, and housing costs. It aims to propose a conceptual framework for understanding how planning parameters contribute to the production of socio-spatial inequality as the study’s theoretical contribution. The findings show that these parameters play a significant role in creating distinctions between neighborhoods and in shaping access to affordable housing. The study, therefore, offers a critical reading of urban planning and highlights its role in the making of urban justice.
