Historic preservation as we know it exists for over
a century. It is enabled through a range of regulatory instruments protecting buildings
sites and even whole neighborhoods . Conservationists consider it
as an essential tool for rehabilitating urban environments, attracting investment to the City , and protection of history, identity and solidarity.
However, there are those who believe that conservation has become a burden:

Pushing for more expensive real estate, infringing on property rights and propelling gentrification
