Davide Schaumann: Human-Aware Intelligent Environments

Buildings have been traditionally considered as static containers in which people’s activities take place. As such, they do not often meet the dynamic and evolving needs of their inhabitants. As buildings become more technology-enhanced, they could potentially be transformed into intelligent environments that are aware of – and proactively cater to – the dynamic needs of their inhabitants. To achieve this goal, this research proposes a simulation-powered framework to sense human behavior in buildings, predict the unfolding of human behavior patterns, and recommend spatial, occupancy-related, and operational adaptations to improve space utilization, people experience, and operational efficiency.
