An open call on a tenure-track faculty position in industrial design

The Graduate Program in Industrial Design at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (IIT) seeks to expand its program with a tenure-track faculty position. The position is open-rank – both junior and senior academics may apply. The appointment can start on October 1, 2023, or later. Salary and compensation are compatible with Israeli university standards.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have demonstrated exemplary scholarship and teaching in his/her field (as compatible with his or her academic rank). Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Design or a related field of design and technology such as Mechanical Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or any other academic background and focus on design and technology research.

We are especially interested in candidates specializing in:

–           Design and Sustainability

–           Design and Biology

–           Digital Design for manufacturing (3D printing, five-axis CNC, Robotics)

–           Design and New Materials

–           UX\UI and HCI Design

–           Design and IOT

–           Generative and AI in Design

–           Design, well-being, and Health

–           Design and Big Data

–           Design for Mass Customization

Successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate-level design courses for both designers and engineers, supervise Master’s theses and Ph.D. dissertations, conduct cutting-edge research, and participate in Faculty (school) and university-wide activities. The rank will be determined in accordance with the candidate’s record and accomplishments. Prior knowledge of Hebrew is unnecessary, and teaching may be conducted in English.

The Technion and the Graduate Program in Industrial Design

The Technion is the leading university of science and technology in Israel and is regarded among the top institutions of its kind worldwide. Three of its faculty members won two Nobel prizes in the past decade. The Graduate Program in Industrial Design (within the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning) was founded in 1994. It is the only design program in Israel offering a Master of Science, Master of Design, and Ph.D. Design Degrees accredited by the Council for Higher Education. Currently, there are 55 M.Sc students and 10 Ph.D. students in the program.

The Technion is located in Haifa in the green Mount Carmel area in the northern part of Israel, with breathtaking views. The city offers excellent housing, education, other public services, and high quality of life. It is the locus home of much of Israel’s renowned high-tech industry.
