Density in Historic Urban Forms

Graduation Project 2023

This research explores the intricate relationship between urban development, civil society dynamics, and public spaces in the historically significant city of Nazareth. The focus of the study is the revitalization of Nazareth’s industrial area through the innovative integration of a multi-layered public sky system. This proposal aims to address key challenges such as limited open spaces, increasing congestion, and the evolving needs of a growing civil society. The ultimate goal is to breathe new life into Nazareth’s urban landscape, creating an environment where public spaces are intricately linked to the progressive development of civil society initiatives.

Nazareth, a city rich in cultural and religious heritage, stands at the crossroads of tradition and modernity. This research seeks to navigate the intersection of these elements by proposing a novel urban intervention: the creation of a multi-layered public sky system in the industrial area. Inspired by Nazareth’s religious significance and the growing influence of civil society organizations, the project addresses multiple challenges while promoting a harmonious coexistence between urban development and community progress.

The proposed multi-layered public sky system offers a transformative solution to Nazareth’s complex urban challenges. By leveraging the potential of the industrial area, the historical charm of the old city, and the diverse functions of the new urban fabric, this intervention aims to revitalize public spaces, energize civil society, and foster a sustainable urban environment. The holistic integration of public spaces and civil society growth will create a vibrant and inclusive Nazareth, seamlessly blending its rich heritage with future aspirations.
