Nazareth Metropolis
The project seeks to address the common urban challenges faced across the Nazareth area. The current situation in those localities, their locations, and the existing urban environment together constitute the foundation for solving these challenges and for the area’s development. The project’s vision primarily builds on the unique qualities and latent potential already on the ground, taking them several steps forward. In simple terms, the project supports and responds to the lived reality of many of the region’s residents. It is a project grounded in logic, in the common good, and in the aspiration to improve people’s lives. Above all, it is a realistic project that responds to genuine and pressing needs.
The project begins with the initial personal recognition of the special urban situation in the Nazareth area – its local history and spatial development, the identification of opportunities and barriers in the region, and the formulation of a regional strategy. It then advances toward a comprehensive, renewed planning vision for the area, followed by the presentation of local interventions that engage with the existing situation, the conceptual framework, and the overarching strategy. In this way, the project proposes and illustrates a more proper planning perspective for the area as it exists and functions today, and demonstrates how this perspective can serve as a lever for both local and regional urban growth.
While the project proposes the development of three centers, even the development of just one, whether in part or in full, would be sufficient to initiate a much larger process with long-term consequences. Such an intervention would provide residents with genuine hope for meaningful, positive change. The basis for each intervention is already present on-site; all that is required is to approach the area differently and, with imagination, motivation, and equitable decision-making, the result could be absolutely.
Ultimately, the project presents an optimistic urban future, full of hope, and even utopian despite the difficult times of this period. Through this metropolitan and alternative lens, it may be possible to create a new reality in which a better quality of life is available to all residents of Nazareth, the Nazareth metropolitan area, and the northern district.
