Dr. Iman Banerjee

Postdoctoral Fellow

Urban and Regional Planning Track

Dr. Iman Banerjee is presently working as the Fine Postdoctoral Fellow at the Fair Transport Lab, Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Iman is a human geographer by training and holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Iman’s current work seeks to expand the theoretical and practical applications of ‘transport justice’ in the Global South, with a particular emphasis on medium-sized Indian cities. He is especially interested in how institutional actors interpret and apply ideas of fairness in transport planning, and how barriers within these institutions can hinder the creation of socially just transport systems. Through his research Iman aims to contribute to a clearer and more grounded understanding of what fairness in transport actually means in the context of the Global South, and how it can be meaningfully incorporated into policy and planning.
