Abstract: Older adults often report difficulties in way-finding and navigation. These difficulties are part of the causes for reduction in mobility in old age. Since reduced mobility may lead to social exclusion and dependence, it is important to reveal the cognitive and neural mechanisms that underlie age-related navigational decline. I will describe studies from my postdoc that seek for cognitive mechanisms that underlie age-related decline in way-finding. Then, I will present my collaboration with Prof. Fisher-Gewirtzman, in which we aim to explore whether and how architectural design aid way-finding in older adults.
