Accessibility Statement

The Technion places great importance on making its websites accessible and invests significant resources in this matter. There are hundreds of websites managed by various entities. This document is attached to accessible websites or multi-site systems, so any site containing a link to this document is expected to be accessible — excluding personal websites of academic and research staff, which are legally exempt from accessibility requirements and are only required to be made accessible upon request.

Approximately 20% of the population in Israel are people with disabilities of varying degrees, who require accessibility assistance in general and particularly when browsing websites. Disabilities may include visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor impairments, or reduced functional abilities resulting from a permanent or temporary limitation.

Website Accessibility

The Technion is committed to Level AA compliance according to Israeli Standard 5568 for accessible websites, which enables, among other things:

  • Text enlargement via a dedicated accessibility toolbar on the side of the screen.

  • Displaying content in high contrast and the option for negative colors (light text on a dark background) via the accessibility toolbar.

  • Compatibility with screen readers, including:

    • Clear semantic structure.

    • Skip links.

    • Lists.

    • Tables.

    • Forms.

    • ALT text descriptions for images.

    • Links with meaningful titles that describe where they lead.

  • Keyboard navigation without using a mouse via arrow keys, Tab, and Enter.

  • Compatibility with popular browsers – Chrome, Mozilla (Firefox), Internet Explorer, Safari.

  • Avoiding flashing elements or rapid animations.

  • Mobile device compatibility.

  • Control buttons to stop/play dynamic image and content slideshows.
