The talk will focus on the differences between teaching and education, on the place and role of a variety of learning environments – their physical, social and cultural role, on the place of instructors vs. educators or mentors and on the knowledge-skills tension. I will attempt to argue that in both schools and in higher education, there is place for a broad perspective of education that consists of knowledge and the ways to apply it; for thought and ways to nurture it.
